Children and Youth Sunday School

Christian Education provides Sunday School for children and youth in preschool through grade 12, from September through May.  Youth in grades 7 through 12 are invited to join our Youth Group for activities centered around spiritual development, mission and just plain fun!

In September 2019, Dover UCC Christian Education implemented the Godly Play curriculum to enable our children and youth to begin and build on their personal relationship with God.  Godly Play is a self-directed program delivered through story telling, individual “work time” and community/sharing development.

As a result of the pandemic, we began holding weekly Zoom sessions for our children and any interested adults every Sunday morning at 11:00 AM eastern.  During these sessions a “story teller” shares a parable, liturgical or sacred story, using materials to catch the children’s attention and pique their curiosity about “what will happen?”  After story-telling, wondering questions are shared, encouraging the children to explore and develop their understanding of and relationship with God.  We close up our sessions with our community, or “feast” time where the children can share anything they want with the group!  These online Zoom sessions will continue until our church is open to the entire congregation.  If you are interested in learning more about Godly Play, or seeing it in “live” action, please email doverucc@doverrucc.org.  We would love to have you join us in a session!

When our church has opened again, each Sunday, children and youth will join their families in the sanctuary at 10:00 AM for the beginning of the worship service.  After the Children’s Message, they move to their respective classrooms.

“Family Sunday” – The first Sunday of the month (Communion Sunday); the children and youth will remain in worship.

In alternating years, our children and youth are involved in:  Summer Vacation Bible School (VBS) an ecumenical program delivered through a joint effort of several churches in the area; and Peace Village, teaching children and youth skills in conflict resolution, empathy, creating inner peace through the development of inner strength, connecting with the natural world, and collaborative leadership.
